Family
Your family is at the center of every financial decision we help you make. Not in the abstract, corporate-brochure sense, in the real sense. We know your kids. We know their names, where they went to school, what they’re up to now. For many clients, we work with two or three generations. In some cases, four.
Every new client we’ve ever taken on was referred by a family member or a close friend. We’ve never run an ad and never asked for a referral. When people trust you with their family’s finances, they tell the people they love.
We also reach out to our clients’ adult children. We offer to help them get started, no minimums, no pressure. Colten is especially effective with the next generation. It’s one of the most popular things we do, and it strengthens the relationship across the entire family.
Monthly “paychecks”
Structure income from your accounts, set up to feel like the paycheck you used to get.
Travel accounts
A dedicated pot for the trips you’ve always wanted. Seeing the money set aside makes spending it feel okay.
Roth conversions
We help fill lower tax brackets to save you and your heirs significant money over time.
Tax-efficient distributions
Using taxable, traditional, and Roth accounts strategically to help minimize what goes to the IRS.
Retirement
Depending on when we start working together, we’re usually doing one of two things: helping you save and grow your wealth to provide for retirement, or helping you distribute it in the most tax-efficient way possible once you’re there.
For retirees, we set up monthly “paychecks” from their accounts. This helps with the psychological shift from accumulation to distribution; no income is coming in, so having a structured monthly amount makes a big difference. We also create separate “travel” accounts, giving clients the psychological permission to spend on the things they’ve always talked about but never done.
We also can use Roth conversions when the math works, showing clients the potential benefit of filling up lower tax brackets now to save significantly later. Especially in California, tax strategy isn’t optional; it’s central to everything we do.
Legacy
Some clients want their wealth to last exactly to the end: “I don’t care if the last check bounces.” Others care deeply about leaving something meaningful for their children and grandchildren. Both are perfectly valid, and we plan for each with equal care.
We help structure assets across account types (trusts, IRAs, Roths) to provide for the most efficient transfer. The goal is to honor your wishes while striving to minimize the tax burden on the people you love.
As our original client base has aged, estate settlements have become a meaningful part of our work. Betty leads that process for families, guiding them through paperwork, coordinating with institutions, and helping with assets held outside our practice. It’s one of the most important things we do, and one of the most personal.
Why “Three Points”?
Family, Retirement, Legacy: three points that shape every conversation we have and every plan we build. The name also nods to our home in Dana Point, where the idea first took shape on a morning run along the coast. Short, grounded, and meaningful, just like the work we aim to do.
