About the Practice

Three points for every household

How the Practice Got Here

One family at a time

Three Points Wealth Planners traces back to a single advisor and a phone book. Scott Sargent started in 1994 as a sole practitioner. The first five years were ten- and twelve-hour days of cold calls. Most of the families he reached in those years are still clients and many of their adult children are clients now too.

The reason any of this exists starts earlier. Scott’s father passed away during his senior year of college. There was no plan, no money set aside, and no degree to fall back on. Scott settled the estate at twenty-one and decided to create a practice that handles what families need, before and after the hard moments.

Betty Ahn joined the practice in 2018 to lead estate-settlement work for clients. In 2021, Katie Garcia was hired as a Client Service Associate, forming a three-person team with a focus on client service. In 2025, they were joined by Colten Franco, Scott’s son-in-law, who spent six years working at Fidelity Investments before coming home.

A long-running client once described our practice to a family member she referred: “Scott helps us make smart decisions with our money, and he helps us with anything involving a dollar sign.” That description has stuck because it’s accurate. We handle family questions, retirement income, taxes, legacy, and most of what falls between.

The Three Points

Family. Retirement. Legacy.

Almost every conversation we have returns to one of these three. They’re why the work exists. The single word “point” also represents where the office sits; the scenic harbor bluff at Dana Point. Three points to plan around. One practice.

Why the Practice Exists

To take the financial questions off your plate so you have room for everything else

Our work is long-term by design. We do it in plain language, in returned phone calls and at a pace that doesn’t rush the relationship. The goal is not to be the biggest practice. It’s to do good work for the people we care about.

What Our Work Is Built On

Three habits we live by

Plainspoken

No industry vocabulary, no marketing register, no scripts.

Steady

Three decades of practice. A pace that lets us pay close attention.

Devoted

Small on purpose so our work stays
personal.
